Here's a random assortment of my writing that I still own the rights to (!). Most of what I've written over the past twelve years is owned by my former employer, the company formerly known as Ziff-Davis, which then got sold to Forstmann-Little Co. a Wall St. investment firm who then flipped it to Softbank, which then floated a billion-dollar junk bond on it to buy stock in Yahoo and Etrade, and then split off the online and other chunks to sell of separately to cover their junk bond debt. The result is that the ZD magazines are no longer connected to ZDnet, which got sold to CNET, or to ZDTV, which got sold to Paul Allen and is now called TechTV. So, we're still arguing about who owns the rights to all the stuff I've written for them, and they hassle me about putting my own articles on my own web site... sheesh. Wired stuff:Wired Cover Story - the cover story for the third issue of Wired that gives an overview of the interactive music scene Other stuff:Terenzi Interview - an interview I did recently with Dr. Fiorella Terenzi, musician, astrophysicist, and all-around cool person. She is great! Hancock Interview - a recent interview with Jazz great and computer music enthusiast Herbie Hancock that I did for a new Japanese magazine called Cape X. I first met Herbie years ago when he had an Apple II and I was editor of A+. Rundgren Interview - an interview with rocker, music video pioneer, and multimedia maniac, Todd Rundgren. Todd is one of the smartest rock stars you'll ever find. Lanier Interview - a recent interview with the guy who coined the term "virtual reality," Jarron Lanier -- a good musician who's also the winner of the award for best dreadlocks on a white guy. Letters:Open Letter to IBM & Apple - Open Letter to Lou Gerstner, CEO of IBM, and Michael Spindler, CEO of Apple that is the cover story of the October 1995 issue of The Red Herring Magazine My letter was quoted in the 9/25/95 issue of the Wall Street Journal.
Wall St. Journal Letter - a Letter to the Editor
of the Wall Street Journal I wrote expressing my displeasure at
what I perceived to be shoddy journalism
Windows 3.1 Bible Giveaway: That's right folks, I've convinced my publisher, the very hip Peachpit Press, to let me give away the complete electronic edition of my old Windows 3.1 Bible. If you're still using Windows 3.1 on an old machine this is a great online reference to Windows 3.1 -- it's in Microsoft Multimedia Viewer format, so it looks & works like Windows Help on steroids. |
